November Gratitude Meditation

This time of year, we’re surrounded by messages about gratitude. Count your blessings. Focus on the good. And many of us are also carrying grief we haven’t had space to feel.

Our culture hides grief and over-expects gratitude. Too often, “be grateful” gets used to rush people past their pain. In this gathering, we’ll try something different: making room for both.

Grief and gratitude aren’t opposites. They both come from love. We grieve what we loved, and we’re grateful for what we love. Holding both is part of being human.

Grief isn’t only about death of a loved one. It can be a relationship that ended, a version of yourself you let go of, a home, or a dream. It can be grief no one else knows you’re carrying. It can be collective grief for the loss of life and freedom happening around the world. And it can be the grief our bodies hold from disconnection from land, community, and the ways our ancestors lived and healed.

We’ll also talk honestly about abundance. Gratitude can open us to receiving good things, but grief doesn’t block that possibility. A heart that lets itself feel loss can also receive fully.

What to expect

  • A short teaching on grief, gratitude, and why our culture struggles to hold both

  • A guided somatic journey to meet your grief in the body, find the love underneath it, and practice holding grief and gratitude together

  • Quiet time to journal, with optional sharing

  • Simple practices to bring into your daily life this season

You don’t need any experience with meditation.
Whatever you’re carrying is welcome, and you’ll always be in charge of how deeply you go.
