The promise of exposure or potential clients in the future isn't always the energetic exchange you need it to be. Use this template to cordially decline these offers and instead request financial compensation as reciprocity for the labor of preparing, holding, and facilitating the space itself.

A big part of my decolonial practice is helping shift a pattern that has historically affected Black women in particular — being asked to offer our knowledge, emotional labor, and facilitation in hopes that it might lead to opportunities later. So now I anchor my work in clear exchange upfront, and anything that grows from there is a beautiful bonus rather than the foundation of the agreement.
